Ghanaian singer and songwriter, Gregory Bortey professionally known as King Promise in music circles has attributed his global and steady-growing fanbase to his focused goal of reaching a global audience with his music.
The Afrobeats superstar shared this in an interview on Y107.9FM’s Myd Morning Radio Show with host, Rev Erskine where he recalled the early days of his career and the decisions he made to make it this far.
“When I started in 2018 and made my first tour to Europe, predominantly the people who came to my show were Ghanaians but I always had the goal for global domination where it wasn’t just music for my people back home,”
King Promise noted he made particular adjustments to his sound, in order to win the hearts and loyalty of his global audience. “I tweaked my sound, I built it, I grew it, and by the next time I was on tour I realized that there was a different outcome, we are topping Afrobeats charts in UK and in Amsterdam.” he said.
These adjustments, he said, did not overshadow his rich Ghanaian sound. “For me it’s mainly with sound, you will always hear my Ghanaian elements in there; you can tell that I am a Ghana boy. Afrobeat has created a thing where we inculcate our local sound with a global sound which is more appealing to someone who does not even understand our local dialects.”
