The Ghana Tourism Authority(GTA) has officially launched ‘Tourism Month’ 2023 and is prepared once again to appreciate the nation Ghana by embarking on a one month long expedition focused on promoting tourism in Ghana.
‘Tourism Month’ 2023 was launched at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, with the rich history of Ghanaian culture etched on every wall, serving as the best venue for this laudable and noble cause. The month presents Ghanaians and visitors alike with the chance to join the ‘Experience Ghana, Share Ghana campaign’.
Director of Marketing at the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mrs. Roberta Amoah called on all Ghanaians to engage in the ‘Tourism Month’ which would be celebrated across regions of Ghana in alignment with the celebration of their imminent traditional festivals respectively. “When you eat Ghana, let us know; when you put on Ghana, lets have a feel of you and when you go round visiting the attraction sites, share the sites and sounds of Ghana with all of us; that is what we mean by saying Experience Ghana, Share Ghana.” she explained.
She hinted that the Tourism Month presents an opportunity for Ghanaians to experience diverse cultural practices, diverse ways of living as Ghanaians and have a fun time while at it. Festivals like the Fetu Afahye, Akwambo, Akwesidae, Odwira, Akwantutenten and many more are headlining events scheduled for the Tourism Month celebrations.
Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Mark Okraku Mantey officially gave the green light for Tourism Month celebrations shortly after stating that the Tourism sector of Ghana can become the highest GDP contributor, and encouraged all Ghanaians to continually engage in domestic tourism and help build a thriving domestic tourism sector. “The numbers for the patronage of domestic tourism are shared with me every year and I can see a graudual improvement by Ghanaians; It is good to know your environment because knowledge about your environment gives you power.”
Other key guests at the launch of this year’s ‘Tourism Month’ were Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, Board Chair of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Seth Adjei-Baah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (Operations) Mr. Ekow Sampson and Miss Tourism Ghana, First and Second Runner Ups 2023.
The Ghana Tourism Authority celebrates Tourism Month every year in the month of September and is geared towards promoting the patronage of important festivals and tourist sites in the country.
