Stan Collymore reckons Manchester City should offer John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi plus a whopping £150 million for Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.
The commanding Dutch defender has been Liverpool’s best performer this season.
He’s been a rock at the back keeping a host of clean sheets, most recently against Everton on Sunday.
And Pep Guardiola has been urged to snap up the 27-year-old at all cost in the summer transfer window.
“I know Pep Guardiola has said he’ll prioritise a full-back and a defensive midfielder in the summer,” Collymore said.
“I’d offer John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi plus £150 million for the Dutchman and I wouldn’t stop until Liverpool accepted my offer was simply too good to turn down.
“I know Jurgen Klopp has a long-term contract at Anfield and that if Liverpool don’t win the Premier League, they will finish probably finish second and won’t want to be selling their best players. Especially not to their rivals.”
Collymore added: “But Van Dijk is one of those incredibly gifted athletes and would make any defence on Planet Earth significantly better. And if City want to become the dominant force they say they want to, then going all out for him would be a no-brainer.
“van Dijk has to be worth at least £175m of anybody’s money and, while it’s easy to throw around statements such as ‘best in the world’, I really believe he is.”
Just like the ex-Liverpool forward wrote, the club will be reluctant to sell any of their players to Premier League rivals especially one of their best players in van Dijk.
Liverpool signed van Dijk for £75 million and his transfer value has sky-rocketed following his heroics this campaign.
He’s contracted to the club until 2023 and it seems very unlikely Jurgen Klopp would entertain any offers for van Dijk when the transfer window reopens.
