How Lenovo’s #MotoZ transformed my Storytelling

The turning point of my career as a writer was when I interviewed Pidgin Music Boss Panji Anoff and he detailed how the current generation took the art of recording for granted even though there were better, easier and cheaper ways to record moments in audio, text and visual.
He pointed to my phone, which had a video, audio and photo options that I rarely used on the job at the time because I had invested in a camera and audio recorder just for work just look professional.
That moment on, every time I had a phone, I looked out for how best the device could help me capture the best moments and quotes that will aide me in telling better and entertaining stories.
I now go on assignments with just my phone and see phones and apps as solutions to my problems as a storyteller because in this digital era where every social media user is a media outlet, people care only about information and not necessarily the one presenting it.
Whoever is closer to the event and willing to share information is likely to dominate or trend!
That said, my new Moto Z exposed me to cutting edge technology that I did not know existed before Lenovo handed me the all new Lenovo Moto Z.
With just a twist of your wrist, the camera of the Moto Z comes on. With another twist, it switches to selfie mode. I haven’t missed a photo op since I touched the Moto Z.
The 13MP camera on back and real-flash-included 5MP camera in front are solid because I used it at the just ended #YFMAreaCodesJAM and it was super!

Please don’t try this at home! Moments from #YFMAreaCodesJam at #KumasiCityMall #MadeOfMore #MadeOfBlack #YFMGhana

There’s never any lag when I flip between menus and the camera app boots up quickly, whether I’m pressing the normal camera button or shaking the phone twice to access the shortcut gesture to launch it.

My old phone was 6.9mm thick so having a 100% upgrade which is 5.19mm thick with a wider screen feels incredibly thin to hold.
Moto Z is a smartphone that takes thinness to a new level with a flagship-worthy stainless steel frame that measures 153.3 x 75.3 x 5.19mm. It weighs just 139g and feels astonishingly wafer-thin in one hand.
There are already five practical, modular accessories that securely attach to the back of this phone with magnets but I am yet to experience that first hand. Read More about MotoMods
Moto Z’s “build out your smartphone” concept is fun and, importantly, its MotoMods are creative and well-designed. There’s everything from a predictable battery back, loud speaker for party folks, controller for gamers, zoom lenses for photographers to a more-wild gizmo projector.

The new connection that’s more revolutionary – and favorable for consumers – is the Pogo-style pins on the back of the Moto Z that enable modular accessories. These 16 gold-plated connectors feed data back and forth between the phone and MotoMods.

The entire back of the phone and all of the mods are magnetized so that the two parts click into place and, thankfully, no amount of shaking knocks them loose.

Things my Moto Z did not give me is a radio, an audio recorder and its lack of a headphone jack in favor of audio through the USB Type-C.
For a music loving soul like myself the USB-C means of piping audio to earbuds means that the phone comes with an easily losable 3.5mm adapter, and I’m not able to charge and play music through the headphones at the same time unless I’m using my Bluetooth headsets.
There’s nothing on the bottom except for a USB Type-C port. Included in the box is a 3.5mm jack to USB-C cable to convert your existing headphones. This seems like the future, like or not, and Motorola is going first.
There’s a tiny fingerprint sensor on the front of the phone at the bottom. Its right near the new “moto” lowercase logo and that saves me from changing my pattern every time my siblings figure out the pattern I’m using for the week.
Moto Z starts at 32GB of internal storage and so I can store enough photos, videos and audio on my device without worrying about missing moments I need to capture because my device might be out of space.
The Moto Z from my experience is the future of phones if you ask me and if you are thinking about purchasing a phone that is light, quick and adapts to its environment and its user at an affordable price; BUY Lenovo’s Moto Z!
