Winner of Miss Malaika 2021, Ama Tutuwaa Osei Akoto has disclosed that she never had plans of participating in the pageant.

The eloquent and energetic queen mentioned that she was convinced by her friends and some relatives to join the preliminary social media campaign of the pageant on Instagram and she did. Ama Tutuwaa added that her friends helped her with the social media engagements that were required and she was shortlisted.

“I knew of Miss Malaika but did not have any plans of participating. I was just scrolling through my Instagram feed and I saw that they had started their Instagram campaign. My friends convinced me to post my picture and join the campaign, and they helped me with the engagements, reposting, liking, and commenting. Surprisingly I was chosen and I asked my parents for permission and they granted it,” she said to Dorothy Cornelius on Y 107.9 FM during the ‘Weekend Rush’ show.

The 19-year-old beauty Queen further recounted some instances where she had challenges during the competition. She mentioned that she was a very confident individual but shy of the cameras, which affected her at a point in the competition. She cited a scenario of the first introductory video the contestants were mandated to record.

“For me, I wasn’t comfortable in front of the cameras, and so the starting was nerve-wracking for me, I am a very confident person but cameras throw me off completely and I remember at the Royal Senchi we had to record an introductory video that was my first one and I hate that video. I knew that was not me, I knew that wasn’t my potential. But I remember that process I felt too nervous in front of the camera. I couldn’t even put my words together, I am the kind that can put out words without memorizing but at that moment. I could not put words together nor construct sentences. It was really bad,” she added.

Ama Tutuwaa Osei Akoto thanked everyone who supported and voted for her during the pageant. She also encouraged her colleague females who aspired to be beauty queens to keep their heads up and never give up.
