Ghanaian Afrobeat musician Maleek Rashid, popularly known as Afro Maleek has disclosed his deep admiration for Ghanaian reggae/dancehall superstar Stonebwoy who has inspired him through the career journey.
The songwriter revealed in an interview on Happy 98.9FM’s Evening Drive with host Akua Sika that as a budding musician he looks up to a lot of musicians in the industry however, Stonebwoy is one he has regards for. “I look up to a lot of people, but I really like Stonebwoy; I listen to a lot of music and I’m very versatile too and for Stonebwoy, the way he is, wherever you put him he conquers. I just have a bit of his spirit in me.”
He indicated that Stonebwoy’s recent banger ‘Therapy’ is his all-time favourite.
Despite being an Afrobeat singer, Afro Maleek highlighted qualities that are one and the same with that of the ‘Mightylele’ hitmaker such as versatility, generic taste among others.
Apart from his great admiration for Stonebwoy, the young musician noted that he has no intentions of being better than Stonebwoy. “I don’t want to surpass him, I don’t want to be like him, I just look up to him and all my respect goes to him.” he mentioned.
