Tanzanian music celebrity, Juma Mussa Mkambala, known professionally as Jux has opened up about his hit track “Shuga Daddy” and its unexpected global success.
In an exclusive interview on Y 107.9 FM with Reggie Reg, Jux shared that the collaboration with DJ Tariko from Mozambique was a result of his transition from rapping to R&B, which was initiated by fellow star Diamond Platinumz’s request for a different sound.
Jux, who has had a diverse musical journey spanning from rap to R&B, revealed that the track marked a departure from his usual sound.
“Like I said, I started with the rapping and moved to R&B, and Diamond wanted me to switch up in the song because he wanted a different sound from what we’re doing,” Jux explained.
The Tanzanian artiste further shared that “Shuga Daddy” was his second foray into the Amapiano genre, a style that has been gaining massive popularity across the African continent and beyond. “This was my second Amapiano song, and with ‘Shuga Daddy’ I did with DJ Tariko from Mozambique,” he revealed.
While Jux was tracking the growth of the music, he was taken aback by its global impact.
“I was tracking the growth of the music, but I never imagined how much it has gone across the continent and other parts of the world,” he admitted.
“I knew people played it across like in clubs because I used to receive videos and all that, but like you’re saying from Ghana, I’m super impressed and grateful for the love and support out there.”
Jux’s “Shuga Daddy” has clearly struck a chord with music lovers across the globe. His collaboration with DJ Tariko and the international success of “Shuga Daddy” showcase his ability to connect with audiences across different cultures and musical styles.
