Former Ghana youth international Clifford Aboagye is remaining hopeful, he will receive his maiden call up to the Black Stars under Coach Charles Kwablan Akunor.
The 25-year-old shot into global fame after an impressive outing at the 2013 FIFA U20 world cup that was staged in Turkey where he won the bronze ball, losing the overall best player award to Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba and the second best to Uruguay’s Nicolaz Lopez.
Tipped by many as the biggest prospect with a bright future after that famous tournament in 2013 where he aided Ghana to a third place finish, Clifford according to critiques is yet to utilize his full potential due to poor decisions he made that perhaps affected his chances for a call up to the senior national team.
Most disappointed Ghanaian football enthusiast have lamented, the decision for him to have left Spanish side Granada to the Mexican League stalled his progress as a youngster, hence, it is the reason why the midfielder’s progression has stagnated.
However, the diminutive attacking midfielder who now plays for Mexican side club Querétaro F.C. on loan from Club Atlas has admitted, he is keen on getting his first invite for the national team under Coach CK Akunor who he believes, is interested in giving young players the opportunity.
“Of course, I know he is a young coach and of course I know he will be looking into the young players.
“I know he is based in Accra and I know he has watched me play so am still working hard, am still playing and am just waiting for my opportunity because I know, am not going to disappoint Ghanaians if I get the opportunity to play for the Black Stars”. He said this in an exclusive interview with Kumasi based YFM
Clifford Aboagye additionally acknowledged the ingenuity of Black Stars coach CK Akunnor, imploring the Ghanaian tactician to end Ghana’s 38 year trophy drought.
“Well, I believe he is a very good coach, I think looking at where he has coached, I believe he can do the job because he has worked with most of the boys
“I think he did a very good work in Kotoko, he has played in the national team, he has been there and I know he has the zeal of doing the job
“I think, sometimes it is about getting the right person who is ready to work and for me, if he is ready to work and be ready to manage his players and will be doing his things right, I believe strongly that he can win the trophy”. He added
