Inter Milan midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah has been named in a 21-man Black Stars squad that will play Kenya in an AFCON 2019 Group F qualifier on September 7, 2018. Asamoah who joined Inter from Juventus in July returns to Ghana’s national team after a three-year absence for the game which will take place in Kenya.
The 29-year-old last featured for the Black Stars at the 2014 FIFA World Cup but subsequently chose to focus on his club career after suffering recurrent injuries while at Juventus.
Antwerp forward William Owusu who turns 28 on September 13 also received his first call-up to the national team in the squad released by the spokesperson the FIFA CAF Liason Team, Dan Kweku Yeboah.
Notable absentees in the squad include Kayserispor forward and Black Stars record scorer Asamoah Gyan, Fernabache loanee Andre Ayew and his brother Jordan Ayew.
The Black Stars will be hoping to build on their brilliant start to the qualifying campaign after battering Ethiopia 5-0 in their opening game at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Their opponents Kenya currently have no points in the race to qualify for the 2019 AFCON to be hosted by Cameroon after losing 2-1 away at Kenya in their Group F opener.
They will be hoping to upset the Black Stars of Ghana who sit top of Group F after battering Ethiopia 5-0 in their opening game.
The Black Stars are followed by Sierra Leone by virtue of an inferior goal difference (in second place) while Ethiopia (like Kenya) have no points and are bottom by virtue of an inferior goal difference.
