Iconic UK-based DJ and Director of Artist Development for Sony Music UK, DJ Semtex backs the current crop of African artistes to dominate the global music space with their craft.
He reiterated that the present music era has seen African acts dominating global stages with their craft and rightly so, deserves to introduce the world to the quality and uniqueness of African music.
In an interview on Y107.9 FM’s “Dryve of Your Lyfe” with Kojo Manuel, the Host of Spotify’s “Who We Be Podcast”, highlighted that the attention of the world has been drawn to music genre’s originality from Africa including the popular “Afrobeat” sound.
“Globally I think it’s Africa’s turn whether it’s acts from Lagos or from Accra anywhere. I think it’s your time. I think we’re in a lot smaller place now but given how big the diaspora is now, it shows it’s a leveled playing field for artiste. So in a way that we look at the Hip-Hop artistes is the way we’re looking at Afrobeats artistes or Afro-Pop and stuff like that. I think it’s all down for the taking. I think people are now ready to hear your voice. I think people are ready to see you guys perform,” he shared.
DJ Semtex was the official DJ at Black Sherif’s first headline concert hosted at the London Café KOKO on November 18. The sold-out event witnessed one of the best musical atmospheres in the auditorium.
DJ Semtex was also in Ghana earlier this year working with Ghanaian acts including the blistering Twitch 4EVA. He worked with him on his latest single titled, “Scary”.
