Ghanaian singer and multiple-award-winning songwriter Kuami Eugene has described the actions of his fans or people impersonating him as an honour.
The highlife act who in recent times has had a significant number of individuals impersonating him on social media and shows across the country from his speech sounded unbothered and unconcerned after describing the act as fun.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Y 102.5 FM with NY DJ during the ‘Ryse N Shyne’ show, he said: “It is beautiful to have almost every young boy in the country start dressing in a certain way, putting on shades and bandana to look and act like Kuami Eugene, to the extent of adding Kuami to their names just to become artistes. It is a blessing and not everyone gets that honour and favour”.
Justifying his assertions, the “Bunker” hitmaker mentioned that he was not the first celebrity to have met his look-alike and that the numerous who have met theirs did not “kill their careers”, hence he was not at any risk.
“A lot of people or celebrities have people look like them and they have met them several times and haven’t killed their careers”, he said.
Kuami Eugene however expressed worry about individuals who impersonated him to solicit funds in the public and described it as an “illegality”.
“Where the problem sets in is when people use my name or my look-alike to solicit for funds then it becomes an issue and illegal, but when it is all fun and people are having fun mimicking me I have no problem and even enjoy meeting them”, he said.
He finally advised individuals who resembled him to have fun, but not go into the public sphere begging for money.
