One of Ghana’s finest lyricist and microphone burners Ko-Jo Cue known in private life as Linford Kennedy Amankwah in a recent interview with Y 97.9fm Takoradi Ryse ’N’ Shyne show host Kwame Legend has revealed how life treated him growing up in Bantama, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
“Growing up was fun, back there in Ghana before all the social media and stuff…… it was about friends and physical activities with games like football and ‘pampanaa’ etc. It was fun because at that time you are growing you don’t really understand certain situations if your parents didn’t have money or you’re from a poor home. It is later that you understand how the world works and that’s when things become sad for you….”
He was quick to add that even though life was not easy he did not see it initially, as his circle of friends were in the same boat he rode. He knew he had to sit up and face reality when he felt life has not been easy all those times.
He revealed his affinity for music grew in 1999 when his grandmother who took care of him at the tender age used to play lot of highlife music in the house and made mention of listening to highlife legends like Paapa Yankson and Daddy Lumba. The love for rap grew immensely when he was introduced to hiplife and the chance to listen to rap moguls like Reggie Rockstone, Obrafour, Sass Squad, TH4 Kwagyes etc.
When asked about his relationship with his parents since his grandmother was raising him before she passed on and later moved to his mother, the Lavender hitmaker highlighted “I had to live with my grandmother because my mum had me at a young age….. I have a very good relationship with my mum but with my dad, there isn’t much of a relationship as he wasn’t even in the country and currently I’m even the one trying to build it and once in a while he tries to reach out and talk to me….”
Ko-Jo Cue who is currently promoting his latest single ‘Tsioo Benke Mi’ featuring A.I. later hinted fans in Sekondi-Takoradi that he might drop an album this year and the time could probably be around elections period so he might change the time depending on the situation.
