President of the Women in Procurement and Supply Chain (WIPSC) and Director of Stores, Supplies and Drugs Management at the Ghana Health Service, Mrs. Araba Kudiabor, has stated that leadership opportunities for many women remain limited due to the absence of established female leaders to provide guidance and mentorship.
Delivering a keynote address at the WIPSC symposium in commemoration of 2026 International Women’s Day on Thursday, March 12, Mrs. Kudiabor noted that many women carry aspirations that have often been stymied by the expectations of society but dedication can keep them o track. “Societal expectations and biases can steer women away from pursuing advanced degrees or leadership roles but dedication can keep them going.” she stated.
She indicated that many women in the WIPSC have reached remarkable heights in the procurement and supply chain industry despite the many challenges and societal biases and are eager to support and nurture the potential women leaders in the said industry. “Lack of mentorship and role models make it harder for women to see themselves in top leadership positions; if some of us are part of this institution and we are where we are now, it means you can also do it and that is where the WIPSC comes in because we need to mentor and inspire other women to pursue leadership positions.”
The symposium formed part of activities marking the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration themed “Give To Gain’, bringing together female professionals and students from Accra Technical University (ATU) to share experiences, mentorship and career guidance within the procurement and supply chain industry.
