Dr. Mrs. Ellen Hagan, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s leading human resource consultancy, L’AINE Services Limited, has demanded a bridge in the gap between what is taught in school and skills development to strengthen the workforce in Ghana.
The Human Resource Practitioner, charged academia and other stakeholders to do more to prepare graduates for the corporate world.
In an interview with host Rev. Erskine on the Y Leaderboard Series, she explained: “I always say that the university of education is only a springboard to career development and to the world of work. Bridging the gap between skills and knowledge is work in progress. But academia and the industry still have to work together in bridging the skills and behavior gaps with our young graduates. Work is always changing. Even though there is a lot of progress, we should also understand that we require a lot of constant upscaling”.
Dr. Mrs. Ellen Hagan, observes also that graduates of today are more obsessed with building a career in no time. She, however, advises that a career is not built overnight. Hence, the need for experienced persons to coach these young graduates.
Dr. Mrs. Ellen Hagan is a human resource practitioner with over 25 years’ experience. She has represented the Ghana Employers’ Association (GEA) during International Labour Organization (ILO) conferences on numerous occasions. She is also an Honorary Fellow of the Boardroom Institute of the Graduate School of Governance and Leadership.
