Liranz Limited was the official Technology partner for the maiden edition of the impact Africa summit: Ghana Laureates 2016. The summit was more focused on: Transforming the future of Africa- Sustainable Development Goals.The Impact Africa Summit is an initiative of Diplomatic Call Ghana in Partnership with the Diplomatic Council, International Perspective, EnergyNet UK and GUBA.
The event was well attended by dignitaries from all over the globe. The event began with an introductory remark from the Special Guest of Honor, Ambassador Francois Pujolas, French Ambassador to Ghana who emphasized the importance of regional integration for security and development which he posited was very essential if one wanted to achieve a sustainable development based on an economic growth that must be inclusive and eco-friendly.
Awards were given to deserving individuals whose achievements are very significant to achieving sustainable development goals. Among the Award winners were H.E. John Agyekum Kufuor who received the Leadership & Governance Award for his dedication and commitment to the sustainable development agenda of the continent after his reign as President of the Republic of Ghana from 2001 to 2009. His passion for practical and sustainable development in advancing effective leadership, good governance and the socio-economic development of the continent which culminated in establishing the J. A. Kufuor Foundation in 2010 to advance the said course could not be overlooked. He advised the youth of the country to be focused and nurture their leadership qualities for the future which he believed was what brought him this far. The Award was presented by H.E. Francois Pujolas, French Ambassador.
Professor Kwesi Yankah, President & Vice Chancellor of the Central University also received the Education Award for his exceptional and continuous administration and academic contribution to education in Ghana and for being very instrumental in contributing to national and intellectual discourses geared towards the growth and development of Ghana. The Award was Presented by the Swiss Ambassador H.E. Gerhard Brugger.
Farida Bedwei received the Rising Star Award for her unparalleled accomplishment as a young Ghanaian and being a force to reckon with in Information Technology.
At age 37, Farida has over 16 years experience in building mobile and enterprise applications. She also serves as the youngest Board Member of the National Communication Authority.
Professor Enyonam Yao Kawukume, the president of Family Health Medical school received an award for his immense contribution in the health sector. Togbe Afede XIV, President of World Trade Center also received an award for Business and Entrepreneurship. Finally, Media and Communication award was given to Mr Kenneth Ashigbe, Managing Director, Graphic Communications Group. Ayekoo to all award winners!
Mrs. Mona Quartey, Deputy Minister of Finance who was also present at the summit emphasized that Ghana obtained a Lower Middle Income Status, ahead of the country’s own schedule of becoming a middle income country. In view of this, government would look for more sustainable and alternative ways of financing development to meet the country’s medium to long term development goals. “Emphasis would be placed more on domestic resource mobilization and devising more market-oriented and innovative ways of raising funds for implementing development projects,” she said.
The likes of Mr Kordzo Sedegah , Economics specialist at UNDP; Dr Nii Kotei Dzani, CEO of groupe Ideal; Mr Kojo Addae-Mensah, CEO Databank and Dr. Felix Addo-Yobo, Deputy Director of NDCP were present to discuss the collaboration between Government and businesses towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Issues highlighted includes; the position of government in the implementation of the SDGs, past collaborations between Government and Businesses, proposals, ideas and strategic means of collaboration with regards to the SDGs.
