Loris Karius has decided to hit back at his critics after another poor display in Liverpool’s 3-1 pre-season friendly defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
Karius was at fault for Dortmund’s final goal of the game in the United States when he palmed Christian Pulisic’s shot back out to Jacob Bruun Larsen to put away to secure the win for the Bundesliga club.
He also had a nervy moment where he had an attempted clearance almost end up back in his own net, but it was put wide from Max Philipp.
There were concerns regarding Karius’ mental state after last seasons Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid, where the German goalkeeper was at fault for two of Madrid’s goals.
The early signs of pre-season suggest that he is still carrying those memories, and Liverpool supporters have had no problems raising their concerns regarding Karius’ form.
Karius posted on Instagram after the defeat in Charlotte to have his say regarding his situation.
“To those who take joy in seeing other people fail or suffer, I feel for you,” said Karius.
“Whatever it is that’s happening in your life to hold this much anger and hate, I pray that it passes and good things come to you.”
Iker Casillas has jumped to the defence of the young goalkeeper to show his support.
Casillas Tweeted: “Will this attack @LorisKarius ever end? I’m talking about him like so many other goalkeepers.
“There are many more serious problems in the world. F***!
“Leave the kid alone! He’s also a person. As we all are!”
Karius clearly won’t be Jurgen Klopp’s No 1 next season with Liverpool recently breaking the transfer record for a goalkeeper in Alisson.
Many Liverpool supporters are still concerned though claiming Karius may not be in the right mental state to even be the No 2 goalkeeper at Anfield for the upcoming season.
