Head of Procurement at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ms. Doris Yenwaana Vaayi, has encouraged young women to make education their superpower as they pursue careers in the procurement and supply chain industry.

Speaking during this year’s International Women’s Day celebration symposium, Ms. Vaayi engaged young female students and shared insights into the procurement industry, drawing from her personal journey and professional experience.

In her capacity as the Organizer of the Women in Procurement and Supply Chain (WIPSC), she delivered a detailed presentation on her rise through the ranks, highlighting resilience, mentorship, and an unwavering pursuit of knowledge.

“You need certain requirements, a required posture and certain sacrifices that need to be made to perform your duties effectively. If you don’t improve yourself and you find yourself in certain positions, you will not be able to perform as expected,” she stated.

She added that her constant pursuit of knowledge made her stand out among her colleagues during her early days as a procurement officer, a trait she believes has enabled her to make meaningful impact regardless of where she finds herself professionally.

“Now I do not need anybody to do certain things for me like typing and preparing my own documents but before it was a challenge. Seeing that it was a challenge I started to learn through the programs and resources available. Make education your superpower.”

Ms. Vaayi further urged young female procurement students to be bold and confidently occupy spaces within the profession, while maintaining a mindset focused on seizing opportunities to create impact.

“The course you are doing is relevant. So you can make impact if you work hard, develop the soft skills, have the right attitude and expand your knowledge on other things such as technical skill, leadership skills and professional skills. There are vast opportunities for you.”

The Women in Procurement and Supply Chain (WIPSC) brought together accomplished female professionals for the commemoration of the 2026 International Women’s Day, hosting a symposium aimed at sharing insights and experiences with student participants from Accra Technical University (ATU).
