A 20-year-old driver’s mate has been stabbed to death at Gushegu in the Northern Region following an argument over food.
The deceased, identified as Yakubu Iddi, died shortly on arrival at the Gushegu Hospital.
Confirming the incident to the Daily Graphic, the Gushegu District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Paa Yeboah, said the incident occurred last Friday.
He said both the deceased and the suspect, Zibilla Ibrahim, 20, who is a student of the Gushegu Senior High School, went to buy food at a joint near the Gushegu market.
According to him an argument over who should be served first degenerated into a quarrel between the two.
“The two went their separate ways after they had been served,” he said.
Attack
The commander said the deceased later went to the house of the suspect and invited him for a fight.
“He went to the suspect’s house and asked him to come out and fight him if he is a man.
“Unknown to the deceased, however, the suspect was armed with a knife,” ASP Yeboah said.
He stated that during the fight, the suspect stabbed the deceased on the thigh, causing the deceased to bleed profusely.
“Sensing danger, the suspect took to his heels,” the commander said.
Hospital
He said the deceased was subsequently rushed to the hospital by some good Samaritans, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital for autopsy.
According to the commander, the suspect has been arrested and was currently responding to treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) where he was referred because of a fractured collar bone which he sustained in the fight.
