Less than a day after reports surfaced that Manchester United had moved ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign Romelu Lukaku, reports say the Red Devils have agreed a £75 million fee with Everton.
Last night’s report from the Daily Mail said Jose Mourinho is on the verge of breaking the world-record transfer with the addition of another player represented by Mino Raiola.
However the latest update, from multiple outlets such as the BBC‘s Simon Stone, is that £75 million, is the fee United are splashing out, and it will effectively end their pursuit of Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.
Other outlets such as The Mirror were reporting that United were prepared to use Wayne Rooney, and allow him to return to Everton as a part of a deal to bring Lukaku to Old Trafford.
But the talk now is that Rooney, though still likely to end up returning to Goodison Park, will not be used directly as part of the deal to take Lukaku to Old Trafford.
Lukaku, 24, scored 25 goals in the Premier League last season and was heavily linked with a return to Chelsea.
A deal is set to be reached imminently, with Lukaku possibly joining up with United for their pre-season tour of the United States.
