Liverpool may have been dealt a severe blow in the form of a sidelined Sadio Mane, who is likely to undergo knee surgery that would prematurely end his 2016-17 campaign, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Mane, who picked up the injury in Saturday’s derby tilt against Everton, has yet to go under the knife, with the club set to make a decision regarding a possible operation to repair a damaged meniscus in his left knee over the next 48 hours.
The 24-year-old is waiting for swelling in the knee to reduce in order to have further scans before making a decision. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp did not seem optimistic about Mane’s chances of returning, however, telling reporters the prognosis was “not very positive but we have to wait and see.”
With 13 goals to his name, a potential eight-week layoff comes at an inconvenient time for the Liverpool star, as the club seeks to finish in the top four and earn a Champions League berth.
