Francis Afful Gyan has written his name in gold and platinum in the history book of KAAF University College, after graduating with a first-class honours in B.Sc. Accounting, bagging two awards in the process. Speaking in an interview on December 9, Francis disclosed that he studied General Arts in secondary school, specifically Akwamuman Senior High School in the Eastern Region but wanted to challenge himself, hence picked up a Business program majoring in accounting. Francis Afful noted that he had to retake the Core Mathematics subject after he failed in his first attempt in the 2016 WASSCE examination. Surprisingly he had an A1, which led to him developing an extra love for mathematics.
Francis further revealed that starting from scratch in the business discipline was not on a silver platter, but the versatile young man was determined to succeed, for that reason, put in his maximum effort coupled with hard work and diligence. As a result, he graduated not only with a first class but also as the BEST STUDENT IN BUSINESS FACULTY and the BEST STUDENT B.SC ACCOUNTING.
“I remember how I had to struggle with the basis of accounting during this course, but I persevered and God Proved himself faithful once again’’, he emphasized.
Speaking in an interview during the 11th Congregation Ceremony of the KAAF University college, the genius shared the struggles he encountered in his educational journey at KAAF, emphasizing on how he had to couple school with work, most especially moving from Tema to Breku in Kasoa to attend lectures on weekends after working throughout the week.
Meet the old student of Akwamuman SHS who graduated with First Class honours & two awards after diverting from Arts to BusinessAccording to the fresh graduate, he was prepared for a new challenge in a new field wholly. Bent on achieving a first class honours, he strived very hard to prove that every goal set is achievable with hard work, focus and determination.
“Diverting from Arts to pursuing Accounting, I had to embolden myself because I knew I had quite a number of work ahead of me; my aim and the expectations from my family and friends could not have made me settle for anything less. I sometimes had to miss class not because I wanted to but work would not allow me. But I never gave up. I had to opt for a weekend school because I had to work in order to cater for my tuition fees, transportation and other educational needs.” he stated.
Francis is currently pursuing an online degree in BSc Computer Science, with Amity University, India. He would love to pursue a Master’s Program in Data Analytics in the nearest future. Being the first young man in his family to earn a degree, most especially after switching from an arts background, francis is determined to live an exemplary life to motivate and encourage every student especially those from deprived homes, that everything is achievable.
Afful Gyan noted that the path to achieving this, is a testimony of how God’s grace can catapult us to greatness only if we believe, irrespective of what others will say or your background. He again stated that ‘Hard work pays’.
Afful dedicated the BEST BUSINESS STUDENT AWARD to all his weekend business colleagues of Kaaf University College and wished them well in all their endeavors.
