The Nigerian artist Mohbad has ended his relationship with Naira Marley’s record company Marlian Records.
In a letter dated October 25 and signed by his attorney O.M Falade, the “Feel Good” singer said that he is terminating his agreement with the company.
Mohbad said in the letter that Marley had threatened his life and had subjected him to “violent physical attacks.”
He further noted the breach of the contract terms he signed in 2019 when he joined the record label.
He said that since 2019, the label has been defiant in paying him his agreed-upon royalties from intellectual property that has been commercialised and advances.
“In contravention of the terms of the arrangement between our client and yourself, you have failed to pay any advances as mutually agreed by both parties since 2019 till date,” parts of the letter read.
“You have also failed to pay all royalties due our client from all his intellectual property works monetized, released and utilised by you from 2019 till date,” he added.
The news comes after Mohbad criticised the label’s management a few weeks prior for allegedly hitting him after he asked for a new manager.
Marley had brushed off the singer’s assertion at the time. Additionally, he claimed Mohbad made the accusation while “high.”
Marley’s story was refuted by Mohbad, who claimed that the singer was responsible for the attack on him.
