Ghanaian heavyweight rapper and entrepreneur, Medikal, has defended his nomination for Artiste of the Year at this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), insisting it is well-earned.
The BYK Empire lead, in a viral interview, indicated that he has put in consistent work over the year, justifying his place among the top contenders for the coveted award. “i’ve been in the industry for nearly a decade now , I’ve been around for some time. In my first year after my big break I had seven nominations, as a rookie. 7 nominations including Artiste of The Year.”
His comments come in the wake of opposing views that have emerged since the release of this year’s nominations, with some critics questioning his inclusion in the Artiste of the Year category.
Addressing the conversations, Medikal maintained that his efforts, impact, and output within the year make him deserving of the recognition. “If I feel my reward is undeserving I would not even be proud to make noise about it. But I believe I have worked hard for it. And I am not discrediting anyone’s work but check the stats and see that this is what I have done,” he stated.
The rapper noted that while debates are rife in the award season, it is important to ditch unhealthy competition and work together by supporting each other. “Let’s be united and push each other to all succeed in this industry. If we are not united, there’s no way we will get to the top.” he shared.
Medikal joins a competitive lineup of nominees for the Artiste of the Year category at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, alongside Black Sherif, Stonebwoy, Wendy Shay, Sarkodie, and Diana Hamilton, making it one of the most keenly contested categories this year.
