Nicole Kidman has inadvertently become a meme after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock in the front row of the Oscars on Monday.
A photo of the 54-year-old actress’s shocked reaction at the awards show soon went viral on Twitter, with fans commenting her reaction was the universal reaction of most of the planet at the unprecedented attack.
While the photos of Nicole were actually taken earlier on during the awards show, that didn’t stop fans from turning the Best Actress nominee into a meme.
‘Nicole Kidman should win the Oscar for Best Reaction To Will Smith Slapping Chris Rock,’ tweeted one viewer.
‘Nicole Kidman reacting to the Chris Rock and Will Smith incident at the #Oscars. A NEW MEME IS BORN,’ added another.
Wrote one fan: ‘Nicole Kidman and her husband having a front row seat watching Will Smith slap the s**t out of Chris Rock.’
The unprecedented on stage attack led to ‘#whatjusthappened’ started trending on Twitter, with one person commenting: ‘Nicole Kidman was all of us at that moment’.
‘Nicole Kidman’s reaction to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock is literally me reacting to everything that has ever happened,’ added another.
It’s not the first time Nicole has caused storm on social media after an appearance at the Oscars.
In 2017, social media went into meltdown when cameras caught the actress clapping ‘like a seal’.
Viewers took to Twitter to comment on Nicole’s clapping style with one user asking: ‘Why does Nicole Kidman clap her hands like that? Weird. Clap like a normal person.
Others asked why the blonde beauty simply ‘could not clap’.
While some went as far as to say she clapped like a seal: ‘Anyone see Nicole Kidman clapping? She claps like a seal. Awesome,’ tweeted another social media user.
Nicole was seen enthusiastically applauding after Charlize Theron took to the stage to introduce an award.
She later explained to KIIS FM’s Kyle And Jackie O that she was afraid of damaging her giant Harry Winston diamond ring.
‘It was really awkward, and I was like: ‘Gosh, I really want to clap’, she said.
‘I don’t want to not be clapping, which would be worse right? Why isn’t Nicole clapping?’ she said, referring to what she believed would be the subsequent media headlines.
‘So therefore I’m clapping but it was really difficult because I had this huge ring on which was not my own but was absolutely gorgeous and I was terrified of damaging it,’ she said.
Nicole was bejewelled with over 119 carats worth of Harry Winston diamonds, including a 13.58-carat cluster pearl-shaped diamond ring set in platinum.
Meanwhile Will, 53, stunned the star-studded audience and movie fans alike when he walked onto the stage and smacked Chris, who was presenting the award for Best Documentary.
The 57-year-old comedian had made a joke about Will’s wife of 25 years, actress Jada Pinkett Smith, suffering alopecia and losing her hair when the actor took offence.
