NPP Flagbearer Race: Candidates hit the ground, all eyes on Bryan the strategist

Dr. Bryan Acheampong

The flagbearer race of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is beginning to take shape as leading contenders hit the ground running with campaign tours across the country.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong have already launched visible campaigns, traversing constituencies, meeting delegates, and rallying their bases.

By contrast, not much has been heard from Kwabena Agyapong and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, whose activities remain muted for now.

But perhaps the most anticipated move comes from Dr. Bryan Acheampong, the Abetifi MP and former Minister of Food and Agriculture. Though his public campaign trail has yet to roll out, observers describe him as “the strategist” in the race — a leader who has built his reputation by working behind the scenes for decades, and who is now stepping into the spotlight.

Unlike his competitors, Bryan Acheampong has already been quietly building a formidable campaign structure — assembling a huge team, rallying grassroots support across the country, and laying the groundwork for a disciplined and coordinated campaign. His approach has been different: less noise, more preparation.

Known for his unexpected and bold decisions — including the historic cancellation of Ghana’s long-standing cocoa syndicated loan during his ministerial tenure — Bryan has cultivated an image of decisiveness and tactical thinking. Many within the party believe his official entry onto the campaign trail will be calculated, deliberate, and designed to make the biggest possible impact.

Party insiders say his strength lies not only in resources but also in his deep grassroots connections, particularly in the Eastern Region and beyond, where he has steadily invested in people, education, and community development. This has earned him credibility among delegates who value leaders who deliver quietly before stepping forward.

As the campaign season unfolds, the question remains: when will Bryan Acheampong officially “hit the ground,” and how will his strategic approach shape the dynamics of the race?

For now, the race is heating up, the contestants are drawing their battle lines, and the strategist has already set his army in motion.
