The 1995 Year Group of Achimota School on Saturday, October 25, 2025, marked 30 years since completing the school with a grand celebration at the 2025 Old Achimotan Association (OAA) President’s Ball and Fundraiser, held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.
The elegant evening brought together members of the OAA from year groups spanning the 1960s to 2009, all united by the spirit of “The Grey City” to celebrate shared memories and collective achievements.
President of the 1995 Year Group, AKORA Francisca Ametekpor, welcomed guests and expressed appreciation for the strong turnout, describing it as a testament to the enduring unity and pride of Achimotans.
“It is an honour to welcome you most warmly to the 2025 edition of the OAA annual prestigious ball. Your presence this evening not only graces this occasion but elevates it,” she said.
She announced the group’s legacy project, the construction of a world-class multipurpose athletics court aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure and positioning Achimota School as a hub for nurturing the next generation of Ghanaian athletes.
“Our vision is to build a world-class facility, but we cannot do this alone. Your support must be intentional to make this vision a reality,” she appealed.
Delivering a goodwill message, Assistant Headmaster of Achimota School, AKORA Anthony Nii-Adjetey Adjei, commended the 1995 Year Group for their continued dedication.
“Thirty years ago, you entered Achimota School. Today, you have been shaped by that training. Together, as we approach the centenary, we celebrate the progress we are making. Long live OAA ’95, long live Achimota School,” he said.
The evening featured stellar performances from DJ Vyruski, Cina Soul, and the Black Lace Band, adding to the atmosphere of elegance and nostalgia.
A highlight of the event was the address by OAA President, AKORA Joel E. Nettey, who congratulated the 1995 Year Group for their milestone and reflected on challenges facing secondary education in Ghana, particularly the placement system and changing student dynamics.
He also expressed concern about the evolving relationship between alumni and the school.
“We are producing AKORAs who passed through Achimota School but did not get the opportunity for the school to pass through them,” he cautioned.
AKORA Nettey unveiled a three-year strategic plan (2026–2028) focused on strengthening OAA structures, improving operations, and fostering a new generation of world-class Achimotans.
The evening concluded with an auction to raise funds toward a $10 million asset goal for the school’s upcoming centenary and a symbolic handover of the legacy year to the 1996 Year Group.
The OAA President’s Ball and Fundraiser remains one of the most prestigious events on the Association’s calendar, blending elegance, philanthropy, and commitment to Achimota School’s enduring legacy.
