Originally named Emmanuel Andrews Samini, better known as, Samini, was born on December 22, 1981, to Mr. G.A Samini and Theresa Nusala in the capital city of Ghana, Accra. He hails from Wa in the Upper West region of Ghana.
Samini undoubtedly is one of Ghana’s biggest and most celebrated musicians with numerous achievements and awards.
Samini, had his basic and primary education at Holy Family Basic School and then continued at St Margaret Mary Sec School, Dansoman for his secondary education.
Samini’s illustrious music career started at the tender age of 14 after he joined a melodious choir in church. His career rose to prominence in 1999 after he was featured a by renowned music act, Mary Agyapong. From his very modest beginnings as a guest artist on many hit singles, Batman soon won over the hearts of many young women and indeed any lover of good music.
With his flawless vocal ability, punchy lyrics and exciting infusion of reggae and dancehall rhythms with African beats and panache, Samini rose to prominence in a short time after he was recognized. His catchphrase “Kpooi” which he explains as the sound of a gunshot attracted music enthusiasts and lovers to him.
Samini has recorded seven studio albums, all of which have been commercially successful. Samini’s fame and recognition began with the publication of his first single, Linda, and following appearances on other artists’ successful singles.
‘Dankwasere’, his debut studio album, was released in 2004 and spent a long time at the top of the Ghanaian music charts, winning two awards at the subsequent Ghana Music Awards in 2005.
Samini’s career took him to new heights, by sharing the spotlight with renowned and global artistes including; Sean Paul, Akon, Kevin Little, Shaggy, Wayne Wonder, Damien Marley, Bennie Man, Jay-Z, Chaka Demus and Pliers, Culture of Blessed Memory, and Steel Pulse. Samini is Ghana’s most featured musician, having featured on over 63 tracks.
After winning the “Best African Act” at the 2006 MOBO Awards, he gained worldwide attention. After releasing his second self-titled studio album, ‘Samini’, he won three awards at the 2007 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. Samini was also adjudged as the “African Artiste of the Year” title at The Headies in February 2008.
Dagaati’, his third studio album, was released in 2008, which became an instant hit after its release. He won the Reggaeville 2018 Album of the Year award after releasing his 7th studio album, ‘UNTAMED’, on December 22, 2018.
Samini was en-skinned as a Chief in his hometown on December 13, 2018. The WaNaa (Paramount Chief of Wa) bestowed upon him the title of ‘Pebilii Naa,’ which translates to ‘King of the Rocks’ in Wa.
Samini has since trained and groomed many artistes in the Ghanaian music industry including dancehall act Stonebwoy, Kaakie and highlife sensation, Kofi Kinaata.
He organized his UNTAMED concert last December and was highly patronized.
