Patrice Evra has shared the WhatsApp messages he and Cristiano Ronaldo sent to one another before the Champions League round of 16 second leg to Atletico Madrid and it shows the scary levels of confidence the five-time Ballon d’Or has.
Trailing 2-0 from the first leg at the Wanda Metropolitano, Ronaldo still felt that Juve would still do the business.
His optimism was also clear in a back and forth chat he and former teammate Evra had on WhatsApp, with the ex Manchester United left-back publishing screenshots of the exchange on Instagram for all to see.
“Home we smash them,” Ronaldo wrote in a message to Evra.
The 34-year-old levelled matters on aggregate with two incredible headed goals and then, in dramatic fashion, Juventus were given a penalty in the 86th minute when Federico Bernardeschi was fouled inside the area and Ronaldo smashed in his 63rd Champions League knockout goal.
It’s just another example of Ronaldo’s elite mentality and him being the absolute man for the big occasions.
Recently, SciSports teamed up with research university KU Leuven to study how much stress is a factor in key moments in football games. They collected data from 7,000 minutes, analysing how performance levels are affected by in-game pressure and unsurprisingly, Ronaldo comes out on top.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is “immune” to pressure, with his performance levels remaining the same in ‘every scenario possible.’
