Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, Director of Ghana’s Creative Arts Agency, has made a clarion call together with Music Executive and Cultural Activist, Smallgod through a spirited initiative dubbed #PlayGhana.
The initiative aims to celebrate and promote the exceptional talents within the nation’s music industry, push Ghanaian artists at the forefront and manage the issue of the influx of foreign music dominance in the Ghanaian space.
Under the banner of #PlayGhana, Gyankroma championed the cause as she remarked, “The Christmas season is upon us and the time where our creative community shines. Travelers visit our golden shores, sampling all the best Ghana has to produce. Our diaspora brothers and sisters return home with braided hair, Kente outfit, hand-curved wooden musk, Adinkra symbols jewelry, oil paintings of market scenes and Ghana’s sunsets. Ghana music is left behind.”
Gyankromah stressed the importance of prioritizing Ghanaian artists during the festive Detty December celebrations, calling on venues and media outlets to amplify the voices of local musicians.
“This month’s festivities for Detty December, we need our artistes pushed to the fore front to be prioritized, in the nightclubs and on the airwaves. Let that tourist sample not only the best Jollof in the world but the best artiste too. So today the CAA is backing the pledge of #PlayGhana,” she added.
The Creative Arts Agency together with stakeholders have pledged full support to the #PlayGhana campaign, aiming to propel Ghanaian musicians to the forefront of the cultural experience.
