A police woman with the Garu district police command in the Upper East Region, Peace Agbemefo, was Monday found dead in her room after allegedly shooting herself in the throat with an AK 47 rifle.
The Garu District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alexander Tieku who confirmed the incident to Graphic Online on Tuesday explained that preliminary investigations showed that the deceased, 31, had a relationship problem.
According to ASP Tieku, the deceased’s action may have been triggered by a failed marriage promise made to her by her fiancé.
He said the lifeless body of Peace was found by one of her colleagues when she went to her house to check on her.
He said when the colleague arrived at the deceased’s house and after several knocks on the door did not elicit any response, she called for a carpenter to force open the door only to see Peace lying in a pool of blood and holding the gun.
ASP Tieku said the body has been deposited at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital pending a post-moterm and stressed that the police were still investigating the incident.
