Highlife sensation Kofi Kinaata has revealed the secret behind his back-to-back chart-toppers, award-winning records, and fan-favorite releases: an uncompromising focus on quality over trends.
In a conversation with Nana Quasi-Wusu (PM) on Y97.9FM’s Dryve of Your Lyfe, Kinaata explained that whether writing for himself or another artiste, his priority is always to deliver music that meets the highest standards.
“It is the nature of the input that goes into producing my music. If I am producing music for Ghanaians, I write as I would expect another person to deliver quality to me when writing a song for my consumption,” he said.
To illustrate his point, Kinaata recounted an instance where an upcoming artiste presented a track to a producer. The executive producer’s simple but piercing question was: “If this song was brought to you, would you invest in it?” For Kinaata, that mindset defines his craft—he writes and produces music as if he were the final consumer, ensuring quality is never compromised.
The “Things Fall Apart” hitmaker also revealed that some of his songs take months to perfect, as his lyrical depth and storytelling require careful refinement to condense long narratives into three-minute tracks without losing their power.
Currently, Kinaata is making waves with his new single, “It Is Finished” (August 25, 2025), a hard-hitting piece that blends his trademark social commentary with poetic storytelling and African proverbs. The single, which follows “Aban Kaba” (April 2025) and last year’s EP project, has already sparked conversations for its bold reflection on society’s harsh realities.
