Francesco Totti and Mario Balotelli might be the most diametrically opposed footballers possible. However the AS Roma legend and the controversial Nice forward could be teammates next season if one of football’s crazier rumours is correct.
Totti is footballing royalty. A one club legend who turned down the riches and trophies that he could have got at the likes of Real Madrid all so he could stay at his beloved Roma.
Balotelli is a player often more well known for his shenanigans than his playing ability. At his still tender age of just 26 he has had five clubs including two stints at AC Milan, having previously played for their rivals Inter.
So despite the pair sharing appearances for the Italian national team, and probably a love for pasta, you couldn’t really imagine them being club teammates and getting on along that well.
However according to one crazy rumour from Italy, via Forza Roma, Turkish side Antalyaspor are hoping to add the two soon to be out of contract forwards to their attacking line in the summer.
Totti’s latest deal with Roma finishes at the end of this season at the Italian capital club aren’t going to be offering him a new deal. Whilst it’s expected he wil retire he could do a Steven Gerrard and continue his career abroad.
Miami FC’s head coach Alessandro Nesta, former Italy teammate of Totti, is reportedly interested in taking the 40 year old to America to play in his team and the Florida side would likely be the players preferred choice.
The Antalya based club are very ambitious though and alread have Samuel Eto’o in their ranks and could be willing to offer good money to sign him to join the likes of Eto’o and ex Spurs midfielder Sandro to their ranks.
Balotelli’s contract is also coming to an end at Nice after just once season with the southern French side and his future is currently unkown so he could be an option for the Turkish side.
But the former Manchester City striker seems pretty happy at Nice and the club have secured Champions League football for next season.
It looks unlikely that these two footballing opposites will end up on the same team, but stranger things have happened…
