Algeria and Leicester City’s linchpin, Riyad Mahrez, has been voted African player of the Year at the 25th GLO-CAF Awards.
The lanky player-maker beat off stiff competition from in-form Gabon and Dortmund goal-machine Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Sadio Mane of Senegal and Liverpool FC to scoop the coveted award.
Mahrez becomes the first Algerian to win the accolade since CAF officially started running the award from 1992.
He was also voted Professional Footballers Association (PFA) Player of the Year in the EPL after helping less-fancied Leicester City to win the Premier League where he scored 17 goals and assisted 11.
