Everton fans were put at ease back in February when super agent Mino Raiola revealed that Romelu Lukaku was “99%” sure to extend his current deal at Goodison Park. However a month later, the Belgian striker contradicted his agent’s words, strongly hinting that his future lies away from Merseyside.
Lukaku has been a constant source of speculation, with many believing that he will move on from Everton in the summer and look to play at a higher level.
Manchester United is one destination being rumoured, while a return to Chelsea is also regularly talked about.
The latest update from The Sun’s Martin Lipton is that Lukaku is “torn” between a move to United or Chelsea, with the report saying that the Premier League top scorer is concerned that he would not have the work ethic to play under the ever-demanding Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge.
It’s also mentioned that Lukaku is keen on playing under Jose Mourinho but also wants to play in the Champions League – something that is guaranteed if he moves to Chelsea but not set in stone at United yet as they are in fifth place in the Premier League and winning the Europa League, and achieving qualification to Europe’s premier competition appears to be the best route.
Lukaku, however, has taken to Twitter to comment on the speculation about his future, posting two Tweets, calling the media “annoying” and asking them to stay out of his business.
