Ghanaian rapper, Black Sherif, has finally disclosed how his first performance of ‘Kwaku The Traveller’ materialized at the 2022 edition of the 3Music Awards.
Early in March this year, Black Sherif made a huge step in his career after scooping four awards at the 3Music Awards, winning the “Breakthrough Act of the Year” and the “HipLife/HipHop Act of the Year” categories, while his First & Second Sermons claimed the “Song of the Year” and “The HipHop Song of the Year” awards respectively.
The biggest win for Blacko that night was his stunning performance of then unreleased “Kwaku The Traveller” song which took center stage of the trends in Ghana.
Revealing how that intriguing performance happened in a recent interview with NY DJ on Y102.5 FM’s “Ryse N Shyne” show, the Ghanaian poster boy shared, “I had the song already and master Sadiq reached out that he had this great idea for a performance. He literally visualized it to me. This is how I wanted to cast and I told him I have the perfect song for this. He didn’t know the song already but he just shared that idea with me and I said this is going to be song that I’ll be dropping in the next 2-4 weeks. So I think that will be the best song to do.
I played it for him and he was like Yo! That’s 100, this is it. I sent the song to him and his team, they did the live rendition of it at then I was in Lagos, Nigeria so when I dropped I started doing my rehearsal and that performance went nuts. It was just crazy for me,” he added.
He further indicated that the team anticipated the effects of the performance on stage but for him, he just didn’t want to limit his creativity to the thought of a flawed performance.
Reacting in pidgin he added, “I no want make my mind dey overblow like that. I knew Yo if this water fall for stage, if I perform this thing live nobody hear before then things, everything go fit mess up. I just knew that like ego mess up but the thing happen weh ei over mess up. People like am crazy.”
On Thursday, Black Sherif released his much anticipated debut album dubbed “The Villian I never Was” which portrays his trails and tribulations in life and has since been making waves across the continent and the world at large.
