Africa’s most celebrated rapper and the ‘Landlord’ of Ghana’s music has expanded his territories to the UK with his epic appearance on the BBC radio 1Xtra’s “Afrobeat Concerto.”
Afrobeats musicians joined the BBC Philarmonic for a special concert under the name “Afrobeat Concerto” on BBC Radio 1Xtra.
The BBC Philarmonic provided the backing vocals as the artists took the stage, and it was an amazing performance.
Out of the few artists picked to perform at the Afrobeat Concerto, he was the only Ghanaian representative, and he honoured the night with blissful performance.
Sarkodie wowed online audiences with a phenomenal performance of his top hits “Rollies and Cigars” and “Lucky” on the BBC radio 1Xtra’s “Afrobeat Concerto.”
Over the orchestral sound of the violins and cellos, the two-time winner of the BET Award performed outstanding rap lines effortlessly.
This only serves to further showcase his plasticity by exhibiting that he can express himself on any style and instrumentation with nothing but hard-hitting bars.
Afrobeats has experienced a dramatic increase in popularity, breaking into music charts throughout the world and finding financial success, and this is the first time a full orchestra has presented a concert specifically devoted to the genre in the UK.
This unique event celebrates 20 years of 1Xtra, the BBC radio network devoted to promoting Black music and culture. It was filmed at the BBC Philharmonic’s recording studio in Salford and also featured The Compozers.
