Award-winning Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie, is set to make his acting debut in First Day on Earth, the upcoming international drama series created by Michaela Coel.
The drama series created by British-Ghanaian actress and producer, Michaela Coel, marks a major transition for the rapper, who has built a globally recognised career in music and is now stepping into film.
While details about his specific role remain under wraps, Sarkodie’s inclusion signals a growing intersection between Ghana’s music and film industries. His presence in the series adds to what is shaping up to be a strong Ghanaian representation on a global production.
First Day on Earth follows the journey of a British-Ghanaian novelist navigating identity and self-discovery after relocating to Ghana. The series is expected to blend personal storytelling with cultural exploration, a signature approach associated with Michaela Coel’s work.
In the upcoming series, Sarkodie joins Amarae – also making a drifting turn into cinema, meet a strong Ghanaian cast including Joselyn Dumas, Adjetey Anang, Akofa Edjeani, Roselyn Ngissah, Akwasi Boadi, and Sister Deborah, further strengthening Ghana’s presence in the international production.
Reports indicate that production for the series is ongoing in Ghana and the UK, and is expected to premiere on HBO and BBC. The move positions Ghana’s creative space firmly on the global stage, as collaborations between international platforms and local talent continue to grow.
