Snapchat has introduced a new 3D Camera Mode that captures spatial detail and perspective and adds depth to Snaps.
Following the announcement of Spectacles 3 last month – new smart glasses that can capture depth with their dual cameras – Snap is now introducing a 3D Camera Mode in its app.
To go with the new 3D Camera mode, Snap is also introducing several new 3D Effects available within the Filter Carousel. As Snap explains in the 3D Camera Mode announcement, the two together “feel life-like and magical, bringing your world and experience to life in a way that’s a step closer to the real thing.”
While iPhone X or later will be able to create 3D Snaps, for now, Snap will eventually bring support for other devices.
The timing of this feature isn’t accidental, as Snap prepares to launch its Spectacles 3 augmented reality sunglasses in November. The device has dual cameras designed to capture depth, and “power new augmented reality creative tools” to help you enhance your Snaps.
When it announced Spectacles 3, Snap also mentioned a collection of new 3D effects, with which you can create “magic” moments, add new lighting, landscapes and more to different scenes, simply by swiping.
The included 3D Viewer in Spectacles 3 will allow you “to immerse yourself in one of your memories or enjoy someone else’s perspective.” Prepare for many more 3D features soon.
