Spotify revealed the top artists, songs and albums on its platform in 2016.
On a global level, Drake was the top artist on Spotify in 2016, followed by Justin Bieber and Rihanna. Drake’s music accounted for more than 4.7 billion streams in 2016.
In terms of female artists specifically, Rihanna was the top artist of the year, with over 2.5 billion streams. Rihanna was followed by Ariana Grande and Sia. For male artists specifically, Drake was followed by Bieber and Twenty One Pilots.
Elsewhere, Spotify said the top breakout artist in 2016 was Zayn, followed by Frenship and Anne-Marie.
In terms of individual songs, One Dance (feat. Wizkid and Kyla) by Drake was the most streamed track on Spotify in 2016. In addition, Drake’s album Views was the most streamed album on the platform this year.
