Christian Eriksen currently hasn’t got a contract past next summer but Spurs aren’t going to let him go cheap, in fact the Premier League club have already told Real Madrid he’ll cost them a world record fee.
It’s not easy being Spurs. On one hand you’ve got your best team in many a generation, you’re competing for the Premier League, ahead in the Carabao Cup semi final, have a new stadium to move into and one of the best managers on the planet.
Reports have suggested that the club could let the Dane run down his contract, running out in June 2021, but Real Madrid have also been linked with a move for the former Ajax man.
According to AS though the La Liga side were given a price of £225 million to sign the midfielder from Spurs, when they enquired two months ago.
Unsurprisingly Los Blancos aren’t willing to match the world record fee for the 26 year old, which is significantly higher than Neymar’s price to PSG, but are willing to be patient.
They will wait to see if the price comes down as Eriksen’s contract gets closer to expiring and see if he’s less likely to sign a new deal as time goes on.
Real are also one of the side’s linked with a move for manager Mauricio Pochettino, especially with their current plight seemingly never ending.
The Champions League holders lost Zinedine Zidane after last season, replaced him with Julen Lopetegui in controversial circumstances, sacked him after only a couple of months, and are now managed by Santiago Solari.
A failure to win his last two matches has left Solari under pressure, although the club deny they’ll sack him this season, and Poch could be the ideal man to take the job in the summer.
Will Spurs once again lose their most important men to the Spanish capital?
