Renowned celebrity and lifestyle blogger Ameyaw Kissi Debrah, professionally known as Ameyaw Debrah in showbiz has called for censorship and control of the blogging space in Ghana.

The blogging space in the country in recent times have witnessed the influx of various individuals through the various social media platforms sharing content, some false, others true. Their influence on these media platforms enviably is enormous with many followings.

Despite admitting that the presence of these bloggers had contributed to the growth of the blogging industry, Ameyaw Debrah said there was a need for proper measures to be instituted in order to aid the growth of the industry.

Speaking on the ‘Y Entertainment Podium’ show on Y 97.9 FM with Macall Mensah, Ameyaw Debrah said; ”There’s been a lot of growth in the blogging space but it hasn’t been controlled to grow in a specific direction that sought of only streamlines the positive things that need to be seen and consumed by extension of that go viral for everyone to see.”

“When I started blogging the space was quite small, people would read your stories and would share also. But two years down the line, social media has become an integral part of the blogging industry, people are producing and sharing content and the audience has also grown from when we started and the content has changed a little bit and has been more of mass appeal just to trend and that’s why I talk about it not being controlled in a specific direction,” he said.

Ameyaw Debrah further mentioned that consumers of information on social media were responsible for what they consumed on social media and needed to differentiate between what was good and what was not.

“But it’s not bad, so far as it gives us the option to see, I think it serves its purpose. It’s up to the consumers to click and consume good content,” he added.
