“The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” host Trevor Noah has paid $10 million for a penthouse in Midtown Manhattan, according to people with knowledge of the transaction.
In a deal that closed today, the comedian bought a three-bedroom duplex at Stella Tower which had been listed for $11.495 million with Chris Poore and Eyal Dagan of Sotheby’s International Realty. Designed in the 1920s by architect Ralph Walker, the art deco tower on 50th street was recently converted to condos by JDS Development Group and Property Markets Group.
On the 17th and 18th floors of the building, Mr. Noah’s new apartment is about 3,600 square feet with a roughly 930-square-foot wraparound terrace, according to the listing. The living room, dining room, kitchen and two bedrooms are on the lower level; the upper floor contains the master bedroom and the terrace.
There are views of Midtown and Downtown Manhattan from the master bedroom and terrace; the Empire State Building is visible from a cast-iron soaking tub in the master bath. “I can’t live without a view,” said Mr. Noah in a prior interview. “As a kid, I promised myself that I needed to look at something, no matter where I lived.”
Mr. Noah is already a resident at Stella Tower; he has been renting a smaller unit there for roughly a year, people familiar with his situation said. The building is a short walk from the set of “The Daily Show,” which Mr. Noah, 33, started hosting in 2015. A South Africa native, Mr. Noah is also the author of “Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood.”
A representative for Mr. Noah said his girlfriend, Jordyn Taylor, is a real estate agent at Highline Residential and found the apartment for him.
The building, which has about 50 units, is nearly sold out, according to Elliott Joseph, a principal at Property Markets Group. He said the sale represents one of the highest prices ever paid for a residential unit in Hell’s Kitchen.
