Naby Keita was involved in a training ground incident that led to RB Leipzig’s session being cancelled today, and now footage of the altercation has emerged online.
But so far nothing has materialised, with Keita taking part in pre-season training and games while he’s continually linked with a big money switch away.
He was in Leipzig training this morning when, according to multiple reports on Twitter, he put in a terrible tackle on teammate Diego Demme which led to the session being ended early.
At first, only a video of the aftermath was posted, but now a few hours later, footage of the nasty tackle has emerged online, and one can understand why manager Ralph Hasenhüttl made the decision to end training prematurely:
At the beginning of the clip, Demme puts Keita on the deck with a tackle from behind and the former Salzburg want is left limping around for a bit.
The next time Keita gets anywhere near Demme, a poor touch from the 22-year old leads to him stretching to try and win the ball, but he produces a wild lunge that left his teammate in a heap and prompted angry reactions from many of the Leipzig players.
It’s not exactly good timing (no pun intended) for Keita as he’ll no doubt be wanting to keep a low profile amid the speculation on his future.
Liverpool have had three separate bids knocked by Leipzig, and the latest from the reliable Paul Joyce of The Times is that the Reds will likely not launch another bid this summer and instead wait until next summer, when a £48 million release clause comes into play in Keita’s deal at RB.
Both he and Demme have made up though, with Leipzig posting a video of the two shaking hands following today’s fracas:
