Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Prof Peter Twumasi on Wednesday March 03, 2021 formally handed over the Theodosia Okoh National Hockey Stadium to the Contractor and officers from the Ghana Hockey Association and Ghana Gas Company to begin renovation.
As per the contract signed last year between the Governing Board of the Authority and related stakeholders including the contractor, the stadium is to undergo a massive facelift in time as Ghana prepares to host the African Games in 2023.
Before the short ceremony, the leaderships of both the NSA and Ghana Gas Company visited the entire facility to determine its deplorable state after more than 12 years of no significant refurbishment. CEO of Ghana Gas Company Dr Ben Asante, was present to receive the keys and inventory to the stadium.
Already, the contractor had taken delivery of pitch materials for the renovation work to kick off smoothly. It was also revealed that, Ghana Gas Company in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Authority will also be constructing similar hockey stadiums in Cape Coast, Kumasi and Tamale.
This latest development follows the completion and commissioning of renovated offices at the Tema Stadium to house the relocated NSA-Greater Accra Regional Directorate.
