Corporate Communications Manager for Vivo Energy Ghana, Mrs. Shirley Tony Kum, admits corporate advancement and job changes are inevitable in the careers of young workers.
In as much as job changes are good, she advised the youth to make sure the transition is to the same level or exceeds the reputation of the former.
Sharing influencing factors in her move from Newmont Ghana to Vivo Energy in an interview with Y107.9FM’s Rev Erskine on the ‘Myd Morning Radio’ Show’s Y Leaderboard Series, she said, “another thing which will make me move from one company to another is that the one I am moving to must be reputable. Moving from Newmont which is reputable means I had to move to another company which was reputable as well. It should be something big. So Vivo Energy and Shell Company is a reputable brand and one of the leading OMCs in Ghana and I had to do that.”
Highlighting training opportunities as critical, she advised the youth to research and find out if the new job has enough training and learning opportunities. “Is the move going to make me rusty? Am I going to add on to my knowledge? I also look at the learning culture before moving.”
Speaking about fitting into her role at Vivo Energy, the communication expert had to put in place policy documents and guidelines for smooth community engagement and external communication.
At Vivo Energy, their key focus areas are road safety education and the environment because of their scope of operations. The brand prioritizes building strong relationships with institutions and communities they operate in.
