Host of Y97.9FM’s Y Entertainment Podium, Macall Mensah, popularly known as Axeman has grabbed the Best Entertainment Show Host of the Year at the just ended Western Music Awards.
The event which took place at the auditorium of Atlantic Hotel on 7th August 2021, saw Macall battle with other great entertainment hosts such as Connect FM’s Ato Kwamina Otoo, Empire FM’s Feeling Daddy, among other to emerge winner in that competitive category.
Axeman has been a household name when it comes to hosting great entertainment programs in the Western Region. With great work exerted in his show, ‘Y Entertainment Podium’, Axeman has set his show as the most authoritative entertainment show in the whole of the western region.
Axeman through his show has given the ‘podium’ to artistes and many other creatives, renowned and upcoming, to share their stories with adept listeners of the show.
Speaking on his win, the radio presenting virtuoso shared his touching journey of he moved from being a stammerer to now one of the skilled radio presenters the country has ever had.
He sought to encourage all children who are struggling with a stammering phase when he expressed, “Let’s all lift up our glasses not for just winning the Entertainment Show host of the Year award, but for the struggle and journey of the small boy who stammered massively for most of parts of his childhood and now has overcome it and makes a living out of it. This win is for all those children who were laughed at and bullied”.
Macall further appreciated the YFM team for their support and sacrifices.

Programmes Manager of YFM Takoradi, Agyekum Gyimah, congratulated Macall on his win and urged him to aim higher.
“We are really proud of Macall Mensah. We congratulate him on his feat and encourage him to pursue even more triumphs. This award is very well deserved and for him to have won this during the station’s 10th anniversary, it is all joy in double fold”.
The prestigious Western Music Awards (WMA) is an awards event organized by Westline Entertainment to honour excellence in the music and media industry.
