Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi aren’t friends, per se, but it’s patently clear that a warm mutual respect exists between the Real Madrid and Barcelona superstars.
The world’s two best players always speak well of each other in interviews and greet one another when they meet during the Clasico, international matches between Portugal and Argentina and at Ballon d’Or ceremonies.
Before Saturday’s Clasico at the Camp Nou, Ronaldo waited for Messi inside the tunnel and they embraced before walking out onto the pitch.
And in the 40th minute of the match, with the scores tied at 0-0, Ronaldo had the task of marking Messi at a Barcelona corner.
It was at this point that Ronaldo decided to have a brief catch-up with Messi – possibly to distract the world-class Argentine.
Ronaldo put his arm on Messi’s neck and said: “Que pasa?” (What’s up?).
Messi, sporting a wry smile, then responds: “Tranquilo” ([I’m] calm).
