Jose Mourinho joked around with former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany that the defender should have thanked him after helping them win the league.
The ex Manchester United manager was referring to a match between his old side and Liverpool in 2018 – where United defeated their rivals 2-1 thanks to a Marcus Rashford brace.
The victory proved to be crucial in the title race between Liverpool and Manchester City, as the two explained when speaking on Sky Sports.
‘In this case, when you look at the last decade or so, there have been numerous times that Liverpool have been top of the league. There have been numerous times where City have been behind as well.’
‘But City were the best team,’ Jose interrupted.
‘When I gave you the title you never told me thank you. When I gave you the title by winning here you didn’t even call me to say thank you mister.’
‘You [City] were the best team. They were not the best team,’ Mourinho added.
‘However, now I feel there is not much difference in power, even in terms of status. You are the Champions of England, they are the Champions of Europe.’
