Why Kyle Walker Has Holes Cut In His Socks

During yesterday’s Community Shield victory over Chelsea at Wembley, Kyle Walker confused fans watching at home by cutting a slew of large holes in his navy socks.
The England international missed out on the Centurions’ pre-season tour of the United States because of his post-World Cup holiday, but slotted straight back in at right-back for the 2-0 win over Chelsea.
However, the former Spurs man’s socks were once again a talking point – with plenty of folk on social media perplexed as to why they’d been cut up so extensively.
It’s become something of a trend in football, with Walker’s international colleague Danny Rose also hitting headlines for doing it during the World Cup.
Sheffield United youth product Walker played several games in City’s record-breaking season with the slitted socks but there is actually a perfectly logical explanation for it.
As per The Mirror, it seems as a kitman, or even Walker himself, has made the incisions on the back of his socks in an attempt to relieve tension and prevent pain in the lower leg muscles.
These days, the combination of tight socks and bulging calf muscles run the risk of injury – and cutting holes is the common solution many players are choosing to help prevent it.
So for anyone whose mind was well and truly boggling, there’s the answer for you. Walker and other players will continue to display the holes so we best get used to it.
