Guitarist, percussionist, Composer, Band leader and Music Educator, Constant Boty studied Classical guitar, modern guitar and musicology in Ivory Coast at the prestigious National Institute of Art . Inspired by the music styles of jazz, Boty has indeed come into his own eclectic musical style by interlacing his own exotic brand with a sprinkle of West African melodic and rhythm patterns, transcending the usual blend of jazz / world fusion.
For his first time performing at Alliance Française Accra, Constant Boty will play cuts from his 2015 released ‘Guru Guru’ album and also pay a distinctly eclectic homage to English musician, singer, songwriter, and actor; Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, better known by his stage name STING.
Boty’s original music is created and inspired by the West African folk sounds of his childhood, the European classical styles that he studied during his teens; and inevitably by all the jazz greats and rock stars he admired and listened to. Particularly Miles Davis, The YellowJackets,
The Zawinul Syndicate, and of course Sting. Sting‘s music has always been Constant Boty’s ideal school for shaping his approach to composing music. He has chosen to perform some of Sting‘s most celebrated songs like: ”
Englishman in New York”, ”Fragile”, ”Every breath you take”, ”Roxanne‘‘, ‘’Shape of my heart’’ just to name a few. Boty will be accompanied by his band; the ‘GURU GURU
PROJECT’ with bassist Nee Mantse, drummer Cosmos Mens, pianist Michael Mens, and a special guest ; the magnificent vocalist Yazmeen Helwani. Described by American Jazz Journalist, Russ Davis as ‘one of the finest players and composers
in West Africa’, Boty will tap into the insights of both Sting ‘the composer’ and guitarist on this phenomenal tribute concert.
Curtain will be raised by the dynamic Aaron Bebe Sukura & the Local Dimension Band.
